Farewell, Opera | SFDFF 2025

A moving portrait of three Paris Opera Ballet dancers at the turning point between devotion and departure.

What does it mean to leave behind the only stage you’ve ever known? Farewell, Opéra follows three Paris Opera Ballet dancers — Alice Renavand, Stéphane Bullion, and Aurélia Bellet — as they face compulsory retirement at age 42. With breathtaking grace and quiet vulnerability, the film captures their final rehearsals, backstage rituals, and personal reflections on artistry, aging, and reinvention. A tender meditation on change and legacy, this documentary invites us to witness the beauty of letting go, and the strength it takes to do so.

Followed by a Q&A with director Yonathan Kellerman moderated by former Paris Opéra Ballet and San Francisco Ballet dancer Pierre Vilanoba, with a reception in the lobby.
